Chief Information Officers of healthcare should look at their own systems before deciding to partner up with digital giants


Tech giants such as Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft are disrupting the space of healthcare. But before the Chief Information Officers of healthcare decide to get into partnerships, they must think through the real value that they have to offer.

Gartner analyst Ms. Laura Craft who is an expert in healthcare data, industry trends and analytics said that the CIOs only have observe the recent headlines for seeing the kind of waves that are made by these healthcare disruptors. Indeed, Cerner has just recently announced that it partnered up with Amazon Web Services as their preferred cloud provider for driving health Information Technology innovation.

She said that Cerner, Epic, and pretty much all of the big vendors were working with one of the digital giants for services based on cloud. She added that it was partly the reason why they suggested that most organizations of healthcare delivery were going to try to have some sort of a substantial relationship with these digital giants while moving forward.

In this session of question and answers, Craft explained why the tech giants were becoming disruptors of healthcare and talked about how the CIOs of healthcare can prepare themselves to work with them.

She also said that she thought it was clear that the market of health care was badly damaged and required new models for management and some of these digital giants could be better at the creation of these models than others. She further added that in her point of view, not all the digital giants were approaching to disrupt healthcare from almost the same angle. Craft said that they knew that health care had a lot of data, and for the tech giants, that is actually a sweet spot, Data was their DNA.
