The public sector of healthcare facilities that are working under the administrative control of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department in the province of Punjab will now have to implement new prices for several services as well as diagnostic tests by observing a tremendous increase in the existing charges which may put extreme burden on the poor patients especially those that belong to low and also the lower middle class of the society.

The Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of the Government of Punjab has issued a notification regarding this matter on 17th August which read that the consequent on the approval of provincial cabinet of the government of Punjab according to the Rule 28 (15) and 30 of the Rules of Business 2011 of Punjab government, in supersession of all the orders in the past, the rates for several services and tests that are performed in health facilities that are working under the administrative control of Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department were notified.

The raise in the already existing charges which is two hundred per cent to six hundred percent for various and tests shall be implemented in all the tehsil headquarters hospitals as well as rural health centers throughout the province of Punjab along with all the district headquarters hospitals except for the ones which are teaching hospitals such as DHQ hospitals in Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
