Nation Ford Chemical is delighted to announce that it has been honoured by the Society of Chemical Producers and Affiliates (SOCMA), the international trade organization for specialized and fine chemical producers, for an outstanding attempt to improve the environment, education, safety and security (EHS&S).
Nation Ford is active in the ChemStewards ® initiative of SOCMA, which has been promoting and rewarding businesses for 13 years to run their plants in an atmosphere that ensures safety and environmental protection for all shareholders.
This is the second successive year of Nation Ford Chemical to win the highest award of the organization, the Gold Performance Improvement Award, awarded at a celebration on December 5 at SOCMA Week in New Orleans. The prize was received on behalf of the company by Nation Ford President Jay Dickson and Technical Director Brooke DiDomenico.
Hugely impressive is Nation Ford Chemical’s contribution to EHS&S performance, which included a $1 million investment in a new 2,500-square-foot Staff training Facilities to promote safety training capabilities.
The Ford Chemical Group also holds contact sessions with relevant parties that have resulted in a significant decrease in recordable accidents. The reality that the technical staff of Nation Ford Chemical spent 100 manhours building a registry to index the current EHS&S laws and identify all chemicals at the plant was also wowed by judges. Nation Ford Chemical has constructed an industry-leading emergency containment system between its facilities and the surrounding river resulting from an unwanted “What-Ifs” plant analysis of disastrous escapes from incidents like tornadoes.
“We are immensely proud of our employees ‘ hard work on our EHS&S system,” DiDomenico said. “This prize represents our commitment to product development for our products, our employees and our community neighbours. To win this award, all employees must be dedicated and involved in the company’s EHS&S program. Trying to win two years in a row proves what a wonderful group of people we work at Ford Chemical Nation.”
“The Ford Chemical Group has taken outstanding strides and consistent actions to provide their workers with a safe working atmosphere and has fully accepted the success of EHS&S,” said Jennifer Abril, President & CEO of SOCMA. “We applaud the NFC group for setting an example from which specialist businesses can benefit and imitate while they develop and reinforce their EHS&S systems.
We are fortunate to have them as a devoted participant of our ChemStewards network, which provides a framework where industry peers will learn from each other and exchange best practices that will help them build customer trust, public’s trust and improve product management across the value chain.
